Tim Ihms, Administrator, JH/HS Bible and History Teacher
 |
Mr. Tim Ihms founded Bios Christian Academy in June 2008.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, he attended Arizona State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a special education emphasis in mentally handicapped. He went on to earn a Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his principal certificate through Northern Arizona University and the University of Phoenix.
He began his work with children in the PEOPEL program as a senior at West High in Phoenix working with handicapped students in physical education. His work experience later included three summers at Camp Tatiyee in Pinetop working with handicapped children and adults, teacher of trainable mentally handicapped children in grades 4-6, teacher of multi-handicapped/severe behaviors children in grades 4-6, teacher of learning disabled children in grades K-12, teacher of multi-grade regular education children in grades 1-6, and founder of Surrey Garden Christian School.

Mr. Ihms is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Mr. Ihms is married to Beth Ihms. Their children are: Ben, who has graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Biology degree and is pursuing a career as a doctor of medicine; Laura, who graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Urban Horticulture; and Matthew, who graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Architecture.

Beth Ihms, JH/HS Science and Computers Teacher

Beth Ihms is the junior high/high school science teacher. Beth received her bachelor of science in occupational therapy with honors from the University of Kansas in 1979. She became a Certified Hand Therapist in the profession’s inaugural year of 1991.
Beth enjoyed a successful first career as an occupational therapist specializing in hand/upper extremity rehabilitation for 22 years, working in hospitals, Dr.’s offices, and as Clinical Supervisor for 3 private practice hand therapy clinics in the valley. Upon leaving the healthcare profession she then taught science in a private Christian school from 2000-2008. While working in the healthcare field she developed a love and appreciation for God’s creation that is “fearfully and wonderfully made” and has been able to take her rehabilitation experiences with her into the classroom.
Beth has been married to Tim for 28 years. They have 3 delightful grown children, one wonderful daughter-in-law, a great son-in-law and 3 grandpuppies. |
Kelly Zernich, JH/HS English and Spanish Teacher

Kelly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona where she attended the University of Arizona. Her career path began in retail store management where she was responsible for productivity, inventory, customer service and staff management.
A desire to experience international destinations and cultures led Kelly to a 12-year inflight service career with United Airlines. Eventually, marriage and the rearing of her two sons, Cole and Clayton, took joyful precedence.
Kelly has been involved in the homeschooling of her own children, and has taught at the elementary level in a private Christian school for the past 5 years. She feels privileged to witness the growth and confidence that exude from children that have been instructed individually. Kelly is committed to serving the uniqueness of each child on their path to academic success, personal excellence, and the exploration of Biblical truths that provide the foundation for life. |
Staci Fletcher, JH/HS Mathematics and Science

Staci Fletcher holds a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Arizona State University. She was an engineer for three years, stay at home mom for six and then earned her Post Degree Certificate in Elementary Education from Rio Salado College. Her M.Ed. is from Walden University. Staci is starting her 7th year in her teaching profession which she believes God has definitely created her to do because she loves it so much. Prior to joining the staff at Bios, she had a tremendously enjoyable 3 years of teaching elementary science, a spectacularly exciting two years teaching Jr. High Science and an industrious 1 year teaching High School Science. Staci is married to her awesome husband of 17 years, Michael, and they together have two fantastic teenagers, a young man in 9th grade and a young lady in 8th grade, who both attend Bios. |
Lori Halbison, Primary Teacher (grades 1-3)

Lori has a B.S. in Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in Elementary Education & Human Development and The Family. She also holds an Arizona Elementary teaching certificate. In addition, Lori is WSI (water safety instructor) certified through the American Red Cross and AEA certified as a water aerobics instructor.
Lori began working at the University day care programs, and also at day care facilities for underprivileged children while attending UNL. She ran a physical fitness program for home-schooling families while her children were small and also worked at a Gymdandy program for toddlers and small children where they learned through exercise.
Lori has lived in Arizona for 14 years. While living in Arizona, she has taught 5 years as a primary teacher at a private school. Prior to that she home schooled her four children, worked at a real estate company, worked in her children's classrooms, |
coached children's sports, and taught in the Arizona public school system. In addition, she coached a swim team, and has run her own private swim lessons for 8 years which included working with mentally handicapped children.
Lori is happily married to David, has four children, two boys and two girls. Her three oldest children are attending college and the youngest is in high school.
Her love of children and teaching has brought Lori great joy and satisfaction. |
Stephanie Terrell, Primary Teacher (grades 1-3)

Stephanie was born in Holbrook , Arizona . This fourth generation native received her Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from Arizona State University in 1985. Her desire to have a big part of the lives of her children, lead her to work part time. She has been teaching high school for seven years.
Stephanie has been married to her husband Rob Terrell for 26 years. They have six children. Chelsea and her husband Curtis are both officers in the United States Marine Corp. Chelsea is a Combat Camera Specialist, and Curtis is serving in Afghanistan . Nathan and his wife Charity are both finishing their second year of college. Alayna is in high school, and David is in junior high. |
Katie Micilcavage, Elementary Teacher (grades 4-6)

Mrs. Micilcavage moved from Colorado to Arizona in 1986 to attend Arizona State University , where she earned a B.A. in print journalism. She currently lives in Gilbert with her two children, Caitlyn and Daniel, who both attend BCA.
At her previous school, Mrs. Micilcavage taught grades 4-6 for six years, where she developed a deep and abiding love for individualized education. She has found that getting to know her students and sharing the sweetness of the gospel are the most precious aspects of her job. When not fulfilling her vocation as a teacher, she also runs her own business providing administrative services to small business owners. |
Carol Thompson, Elementary Teacher (grades 4-6)

Carol graduated with a degree in Psychology from Southern Methodist University and comes with many valuable years of experience in teaching. She had the privilege of home schooling her children for 14 years, and more recently taught grades 4-6 for nine years at a private school using an individualized method of teaching.
Carol and her husband, Hal, live in Phoenix and have three children and three grandchildren. They attend Church of the Redeemer. |
Rosemary Boswell, Homeschool Support Teacher (grades 1-6)

Rosemary was born and raised in southern Illinois. She attended John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois where she majored in business. She began with a career in the banking industry, working at several different levels, including new accounts and loan processing.
Rosemary and her husband home schooled their sons for six years. During this time, she also worked for a charter school home school program in northern California and ran her own home based scrapbooking business.
In 2005, the Boswell family moved to Arizona and Rosemary began substitute teaching at a Christian school. She continued at that school teaching the home school enrichment program for the next three years.
Rosemary has been married to Lt. Col. Joel Boswell for 20 years. Joel serves our country as a pilot in the Air Force. Their two sons attend Bios. The Boswells are involved members of New Hope Community Church in Gilbert. |
Jerenne Block, Kindergarten Teacher

Jerenne Block is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. She has 2 grown children and one grandchild. She, along with her husband Tim, has been in youth ministry to junior high students for over 20 years. Jerenne has taught pre-school for several years, has been a substitute teachers in all grade levels and most recently has been a classroom aid in kindergarten classes in the Chandler Public Schools. Jerenne exhibits a strong passion for both her love of Christ and her desire to educate in primary education. |
Garth Bostic, JH/HS Strings and Guitar

After working as a professional musician for more than eight years, Garth Bostic has joined the Bios staff to teach guitar. Nearly an Arizona native, Garth has lived in the Valley since he was a child. He toured nationally as lead singer and songwriter for the Christian band Sky Harbor. He married and began his collegiate studies at Arizona State University in 2006, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2008.
Bostic taught private guitar lessons for several years and currently works as the Director of Music at Praxis Church in Tempe while he continues to write and perform his original music. He lives in Tempe with his wife, Rebecca, and baby daughter, Lyla. |
Matthew Ihms , Primary and Elementary Art Teacher

With a bachelors in architecture, and currently working on a Masters of Architecure at ASU, Matt has a brief background in art and design.
Having worked at several local architecture firms, as well as serving as a substitute teacher for the last 5 years, his passion for guiding learning has become reinforced, as he constantly strives to honor God through his work and knowledge. |
Lori Greene, Business Manager

Lori was raised in Southern California and moved to Arizona in 1990. Shortly after moving she married her husband, Jeff, a near-native Arizonan, and they have since made Arizona their home.
Lori brings to Bios 20 years of office experience. Five of those years was assisting Tim Ihms at his previous school.
Jeff and Lori have four sons and a daughter ranging in age from 11-17 years. They all happily attend and worship at Praxis Church. The Greene family is very excited and honored to be part of the BCA family! |
Becky Callahan, Lunch Room Manager, Playground Aide

Becky Callahan is joining the Bios team as the lunch room manager and playground aide. Becky is a familiar face as we all remember her tireless work in keeping the kitchen at her previous job in perfect condition receiving the Gold Star award for 8 years in a row from the county health department. Before managing school lunch programs, Becky worked for the FBI and Ford Motor Company in Detroit .
Becky has been married to Jack for 30 years. They have 2 adult daughters, Kelly an attorney in Tempe, and Kathleen who helps her parents care for their 4 Golden Retrievers. In her spare time, Becky enjoys running with the dogs 12 miles a week and putting in more mileage at the mall with daughter Kathleen. |
Fern Woods, Office Assistant

Fern Woods will be helping out in the office with filing, copying, and delivering materials to the classrooms. She will also be coordinating the K-6th monthly awards program – Grandma's Cookies.
Fern is originally from Oklahoma and lived a full life in Kansas with her husband Bob while raising 2 daughters. She and Bob moved to Arizona in 1993 to be close to family. Bob went to be with the Lord in 1998. Fern has grandchildren in both Arizona and Colorado and takes great joy in being a part of their lives. She is thrilled to be able to watch and help Bios grow into a ministry to children and their families that will glorify God. |
